Dr. Farida Bounoua is a board-certified general surgeon and a Fellow of
American College of Surgeons (FACS). She completed her internship
and residency at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in California. Following
her training she pursued a Fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Weight
Loss Surgery at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
She is currently a staff member in Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital and
Goleta Valley Hospital.
Dr. Bounoua has performed laparoscopic bariatric surgeries and general surgery procedures since 2001. She is a member of several professional societies, including the American Society of Metabolic Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) and the Society of American Gastroenterology Endoscopy (SAGES). Dr. Bounoua has written several articles in many prestigious surgical journals, such as Annals of Vascular Surgery, American Journal of Hypertension, and the Journal of Investigative Medicine.
Dr. Bounoua received her medical degree from the University of Algiers in France and obtained her medical license in Paris (France). She completed a Masters Degree in Immunoallergology at the University Lariboisiere-Paris VI, France. After the completion of an emergency residency at the University of Rene Descartes, Paris V, France, she worked as a junior faculty member in France then moved in the USA in 2000. Dr. Bounoua worked for two years in the research of diabetes and hypertension and published several papers. In 2001 she was awarded the Merck Angiotensin Young Investigators Award for her outstanding contribution on diabetes research. She is fluent in French and Arabic.
